Simon Bourne is a force of nature.
Known as The Shoe Guy (#shoeguy) he’s the founder of The Hand Dyed Shoe Co, and he’s one of our favourite visitors to the Not Just Numbers office. Bringing passion, energy, ideas and obviously bedecked in beautiful shoes.
The Hand Dyed Shoe Company are truly artisan shoemakers, they craft unique shoes made from the finest leather and hand dyed exclusively for you. No two pairs are ever the same. It’s your opportunity to own a pair of devastatingly handsome shoes that no-one else in the world will have.
Simon started the business using offcuts of leather from his job as a sofamaker.
He started making bespoke, one-off, hand-dyed shoes for a selection of discerning clients. Soon enough the business started expanding and Simon began selling shoes all over the world from Dubai to Australia.
Quick step to 2019 and the business is truly kicking up a storm.
They recently won Klarna’s ‘Smoooth Stores’ competition. With entries received from all over the UK, a visit from celebrity Hugo Taylor and an open voting period, The Hand Dyed Shoe Co took the crown winning £10,000.
Simon said: “I come from quite humble beginnings – a council estate in Scunthorpe actually, and I never dreamed I’d be here in front of everyone to accept such a generous award. This opportunity will really drive my business into the future – we’ll invest it wisely and I hope you’ll see much more from The Hand Dyed Shoe Co. in the future.”
If that wasn’t enough, they’ve also just won Newcomer of the Year at the North East Business Awards!
Simon said: “Winning this award for me is an extraordinary feeling. I can’t help but feel humbled by what has happened. This wasn’t supposed to happen! It was just a hobby that stole my heart and gave me a lifestyle where I could collect my daughter from school most days. Never ever did I envisage HDSCo to win awards, or to achieve what we have achieved in such a short space of time.”
Not one to stand still, Simon has just launched his much-anticipated 2019 collection. Take a look on their website and check out the new derby brogue, the chiselled half-chelsea boot and the military styled Mr. Bison.
We’re delighted to be working with Simon and the team and congratulate them on their recent successes.
