Northwood Trail – York’s Enchanting New Fairy Sanctuary
Yorkshire is full of lovely nooks of nature and hidden gems – but Northwood Fairy Sanctuary has to be one of the most magical. Nestled in a hundred-acre woodland, this delightful fairy wood feels like another world.
A walk in the woods can be magical. With a little imagination, you can feel like you’re stepping into an enchanting world. This is certainly true of The Northwood Fairy Sanctuary. The Van Outersterp family created this unique attraction so everyone can fall in love with the woodland as much as they have. There’s a whole lot to see along the meandering trail through the ancient woodland… from tiny wooden fairy doors and hanging bridges, to a vast range of trees – oaks, pines, firs and birch to name a few – as well as over 200 species of birds.
At the end of the walk there’s a small museum and the Woodland Kitchen, which is a treat in itself. This unique eatery under the trees is a magical place to have your daily coffee – or treat yourself to something a little bit stronger by the fire. They also serve a delicious selection of natural food.
Unusually for a visitor attraction, Northwood is ‘off-grid’ – generating its own electricity. It is part of the family’s commitment to sustainability.
We love working with such a unique client.
